General Dimensions and Properties
|
Material |
Approximately 70% recycled scrap tire rubber, 25% recycled HDPE and / or PP plastic, and 5% additives (to address UV stabilization coloring, etc.). |
Sizes |
Paver: 2.8" x 5.8" x 2.5" (W x L x H) Grid: 11.8" x 11.8" x 1.2" (W x L x H) Note: 8 pavers + 1 grid will provide 1 sq-ft of coverage and will be 3" tall assembled. Sand is used to fill joints. |
Weight |
Paver: 0.91 lbs Grid: 3.7 lbs 1 sq-ft (assembled): approximately 11 lbs. |
Surface |
Paver top surface is slightly textured with a 1/8" radius around the perimeter. The vertical corners of each paver have a 3/16" radius. |
|
VAST Composite Paver Systems require virtually no maintenance other than an occasional replenishment of joint sand. Chemical spills (e.g., petroleum, paint, etc.) should be cleaned as soon as possible with an appropriate industrial cleaner and rinsed thoroughly with water. Chemical spills / stains left untreated over long periods of time may degrade the surface finish and integrity of the product and are not covered under warranty.

Compressive Strength ASTM C140 Section 6 (Note 1) |
1" deflection at 937 psi (in assembled configuration) |
Flexural Strength ASTM C140 Section 7 (Note 1) |
434 psi (average flexural strength) 1897 psi (average flexural modulus) |
Coefficient of Friction ASTM C1028 (Note 1) |
DryAVG: 0.83 (Standard Deviation: 0.07) WetAVG: 0.62 (Standard Deviation: 0.06) Notes: OSHA recommends a minimum COF of 0.50. ADA recommends a minimum COF of 0.60 for flat surfaces. |
Flame Spread UL 94 Section 7 (Note 2) |
Horizontal burning rate: 32.6 mm/min (1.04 in/min) Note: The VAST Composite Paver System is not intended for applications that are exposed to fire (e.g., fire pits). It is recommended that fire sources be kept at least 4 feet from paver installations. Contact your dealer or VAST to discuss your specific application. |
Xenon Arc Weathering ASTM G155 (Note 1) |
2100+ hours of Xenon-arc testing with periodic water spray. Observed mild 'richening' of color after 1000 hours. No staining or cracking observed. |
Chemical Resistance (Note 3) |
No significant discoloration or product degradation observed after one full season of in-field application of salt. |
Cold Water Absorption ASTM C67 Section 8 (Note 3) |
<1% by mass Average saturation coefficient (after 1hr boil): 0.05 |
Freeze-Thaw Cycling ASTM C67 Section 9 (Note 3) |
Product freeze-thaw cycled 52 times over 75 days. No visual signs of cracking, warping, or crazing. |
Infiltration Rate - Permeability (Note 4) |
With 3/8"- trap rock: >408 in/hr With concrete sand: 88 in/hr |
